Git Sync is run by Tuan Pham. This page says what the app reads from your Shopify store, where it keeps it, and how it is removed.
What Git Sync does
Git Sync backs up your store’s content to a GitHub repository you own: products, collections, pages, blogs, articles, navigation menus, URL redirects, metaobjects, metafield definitions, files, shop settings and policies. From that history you can put back an earlier version of an item, or an item that was deleted.
What goes to your repository
Each item is saved as a JSON file and committed by the Git Sync GitHub App. The repository belongs to you. Git Sync adds commits to the branch you choose and never rewrites or deletes its history, including after you uninstall.
Copies of your files
Images, videos, 3D models and documents from your Files library are too large for a repository, so Git Sync copies them to storage it manages at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (self-hosted MinIO on the app server). A copy is kept while the file exists in your store and for 90 days after it is deleted, so a deleted file can be put back. Nothing in that storage is public. You can download any copy from the file’s page in the app. On the Free plan no copies are made.
What Git Sync keeps
To run the backup, Git Sync keeps your store address and the access token Shopify issues at install; the GitHub installation and the repository and branch you chose; an index of the items it has backed up; 90 days of activity, such as commits and restores; and your plan and usage counts. This is held in a database at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
What Git Sync never reads
Git Sync does not ask for access to customers, orders or payments, and never reads personal data about the people who buy from your store.
Billing
Plans are charged by Shopify on your Shopify bill. Git Sync never sees your payment details.
Uninstalling and deletion
Uninstalling stops backups at once. Everything Git Sync holds about your store, including file copies, is removed within 48 hours. A data deletion request sent through Shopify removes it immediately. Your GitHub repository is not changed.
